Training and Specialization

Dr. Stacie Coveleski (Dr. Stacie), is excited to serve the Denver community working at Two Trees Therapy Services because the team values treating patients holistically. I currently work with teens (13+), young adults & adults. Some specialty areas I have gained in my training are trauma/PTSD, eating disorders, and women's issues.

After completing my undergraduate degree, I worked as a care coordinator in a residential treatment facility for teen girls (aged 13-18). Some of the teen girls had diagnoses of mood disorders, and eating disorders, and were victims of abuse. While in graduate school, I volunteered in the Los Angeles County area to assist victims through the organization, YWCA Sexual Assault Crisis Services. The duties involved answering crisis hotline calls from victims in the local community, and providing them with education, support, and resources. I was also on-call as a member of the sexual assault response team (SART), accompanying and assisting victims of sex crimes in local Long Beach area hospitals.

Domestic violence/abuse is a common and silent killer in families and communities and is a topic that I hold close to my heart. Due to my passion for assisting in empowering and healing victims, I obtained a position working in a crisis domestic violence shelter as a residential counselor for the Jewish Family Services of Los Angeles. I felt privileged as these brave survivors and their children allowed me to walk alongside them during their escape and recovery journey.

Approach

I utilize an integrative approach to treatment and primarily apply researched-based psychodynamic, depth-oriented modalities. Care is uniquely tailored to a patient’s personality and presenting issues. We look at unhelpful beliefs about self-identity, including self-destructive thoughts. In addition, early childhood experiences serve as the background on which our self-identity is based and that future relationships are built upon. Unconscious maladaptive behaviors and thoughts are always present but in session, we will bring that to awareness and work through them.  Through this collaborative work, we will be able to bring about change and incorporate more adaptive behaviors and thoughts.

For teens, identity, peer relationships, body image, and managing emotions are frequently a source of significant stress and are explored in a safe treatment space. Sometimes, having a non-biased person to ‘get it all out’ with is helpful and sets the stage for progress in areas of struggle.

I am an enthusiastic supporter of collaborating with current and previous treatment team providers per release of information for the highest quality of care, which may include; previous therapist(s), medical doctor(s), psychiatrist(s), occupational therapist(s), and registered dieticians. Our minds and bodies are interconnected, and it is important to address many avenues of health.

Education:

Dr. Stacie obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Biola University in La Mirada, California. She was drawn to the unique and competent way her program taught the integration of spirituality with the science of psychology. She loved the ethnic diversity in Southern California and immersed herself in its different cultures. As a result, she decided to stay in California to acquire her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Anaheim, California. Following her doctoral training, she moved to Nevada to start her doctoral internship at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Counseling and Psychological Services (UNLV-CAPS). She was a member of the campus’ eating disorder treatment team. For her postdoctoral residency, she worked at Center for Modern Therapy, a group private practice in Northern California. She was supervised by a licensed psychologist who specialized in treating eating disorders and co-occurring mental illnesses.

About Dr. Stacie:

Dr. Stacie is originally from the Southeast region of Michigan and was raised in a predominantly middle-class, European-American populated town. Upon high school graduation, she was determined to work towards relocating to a diverse area in the nation to become a more well-rounded/culturally competent clinician. Dr. Stacie has many familial roots in Detroit and is inspired by its resilient, “rise of the underdog” spirit.
