Philosophy of Play

Play is how children experience the world, cope with stress, and communicate their inner experience. At Two Trees Therapy Services we utilize play-based therapy as our treatment approach for children. We see children age two years old and up. Please read more to learn about our approach and how we offer support for parents and family too!

Individual play-based therapy

Each child treated at Two Trees Therapy Services has the opportunity to express themselves in a safe place with their individual therapist who provides warmth, focused attention, boundaries, and opportunity for exploration and growth. Each session is child-centered and focused on play.

Emotions

Emotional expression is difficult for adults…imagine how hard it is for children! Their little brains are still developing and learning to take in the world. They can only express their emotions with emotions…tantrums, tears, yelling…they need help to verbalize. At Two Trees Therapy Services we help them to express their emotions and provide them with the language and resources to cope with overwhelming experiences.

Play in a child’s world

Every child has their own unique perspective of self and the world…this is the child’s “inner world”. Since their verbal skills are not yet fully developed, they cannot use words to fully express their internal experience of feelings and thoughts. The only way they can express themselves is through play. At Two Trees, your child’s therapist will use play to help children express themselves.

Parent and family

Here at Two Trees Therapy, we recognize that parents and family want to help support their child as much as they can. We offer you and your family strategies, resources, and consultations to be able to better respond to difficulties your child has or may encounter.

Family play

Children are not isolated in play, families play too! We help families learn how to incorporate “therapeutic play” at home so that the entire family unit can improve their communication and understanding of the little ones in the home.
